Anyway, I asked Macmillan on the Winter's Heart audiobooks, on which per permission they answered so: Thank you for your interest in our Wheel of Time audiobooks. We previously did not have the rights to Winter's Heart, but just recently acquired them. As such, we will be releasing it both digitally and on CD in the beginning of March 2011. So I gather, if anyone wishes the cds, they should be out soon. For myself, as I mentioned in asking, I could not have books beyond Path of Daggers without getting them in order.

This is something I'm curious about. Was Artur Hawkwing spun out to unite the world or to shatter it once more? One thousand years after the breaking civilization was on its feet and Randland stood united under an agreement. Then came the Trolloc wars and Aridhol's betrayal of Manetheren (the result of Mordeth's taint and his delving into dark powers). The Trolloc Wars were supposedly strongly brought about by Ishy. Artur Hawkwing is then spun out one thousand years later, an incredibly powerful ta'veren with the goal of uniting the world. Randland was nearly united, armies were sent to conquer Seanchan and Shara, and then he dies because he refused Healing from an Aes Se…

Well, obviously the average Asha'man would burn the average Sith Lord to a crisp. But, between a fairly weak Asha'man and an exceptionaly strong Sith Lord, who would win? And why?

So I jotted this idea down while doing a re-read, and I haven't my books in front of me now to allow me to be perfectly precise, but here's a thought on something that we've missed, I think. I certainly have never seen mention of it here, or even back on the old WOT forums. In LOC, pg 283 (hardcover) Rand is thinking about the bond Alanna had placed on him, and LTT says that, "You can never escape the traps you spin yourself...Only a greater power can break a power, and then you're trapped again. Trapped forever so you cannot die." This begs the question of, one, if this was meant as a foreshadowing of Rand breaking loose from the male a'dam, which I think is …

I have been thinking about how RJ never really got around to killing off any chaacter of significance, and thought that maybe the reason he didn't, was becasue he was planning on a "The Departed" style ending where everyone gets whacked. What do you think the chnaces are on this type of Bloodbath ending?

I was just curious what you all think is the reason for her not Identifying herself to Perrin and his group once she found out who he was. I can understand why she did when they were on the run from the Seanchan, but now that they were picked up by Perrin's group why not reveal her identity?

  9. Started by Diederichos,

I was recently pouring over the series in expectation for ToM and got struck by the following thought. Just precisely what is the relation between ta'veren and the Heroes of the Horn? From my understanding, Brigitte is still a Hero, but she's a not ta'veren else something tells me that that would have been noticed by Nicola and other Salidar folks. Yet, she clearly has a long life and beyond that she has led a life that has had a role in shaping important world events, the same goes for all others. But to my understanding, she is not ta'veren. On the other hand, Hawkwing is both the leader(I would think based on how they were written in tGH) of the Heroes and a very impor…

The traveling people and their lost song. I can't remember if this was discussed when Rand goes through Rhuidean or not. I can't re-read that part as I don't have the books with me here in Afghandyland (kind of like candyland but instead of mountains of cupcakes it's sand, and the lollipops are RPG's). Can someone enlighten me on this please? Also... if it isn't mentioned... what is the "lost song" and what importance (if any) would it play later?

Ok... so Ba'alzamon "BRAAARAWRRRRRRR" (sorry he wanted to bellow) means "heart of the dark" right? Dude turns out to be Ishy. Ok... so Shaidar Haran "..." (yea can't think of a myddraal thing to word out here) means "hand of the dark" right? Dude is who? Now Alviarin is marked by dude, and says something like I got fondled by the DO. But didn't people getting visited by Ishy in their dreams say he was the DO? Ok... lets go SAT on this conundrum. Ba'alzamon is to Ishy as Shaidar Haran is to ________. ready.... GO. P.S. I was going to check if this was already a thread, but I really had no intention of searching through 167 pages of topics.…

I think a dream was sneakily fulfilled in tGS. Specifically, this one. Previously, people thought it referred to Gawyn saving Egwene from execution at the hands of Elaida--but obviously that didn't happen. Nevertheless, there is a moment in tGS which fits this rather neatly. Specifically, during the Seanchan attack Egwene wears herself out so thoroughly that she cannot move [her own exhaustion being the straps at waist and shoulder], meanwhile a group [siuan, Gawyn, Bryne] have come running, looking to save her [though given this was Gawyn's thing through the entire book, and he's the one that picks her up, I'd say he's the one referred to in the dream]. And …

SPOILER ALERT FOR ANYONE WHO HAS NOT READ AS FAR AS THE LORD OF CHAOS. ! ! ! In the prologue to (I believe it was) LOC, the DO speaks to Demandred, asks him if he would be nae'blis, and asks him if he would wield balefire. Then, Demandred sort of vanishes from the book for a while. Moridin appears, Moridin is nae'blis, and Moridin wields balefire, which crosses with Rand's when destroying Sammael. Has this been explained? Why was this position offered to Demandred but then given to Moridin, who is supposedly the resurrected Ishamael, without any explaination as to why? Or was their an explaination that I just missed?

This got lost in the accident, so I'm reposting. Here are the things Leigh mentioned. 1.“I totally cannot decide whether to be pleased about this, or kind of freaked out.” 2.“Okay, that may or may not have been quite a Crowning Moment of Awesome for _____, exactly, but that is unquestionably one of the coolest things that has ever happened in this series. All is forgiven, man.” 3.“Is it possible to have a complete seal-clapping moment of YAY, and shriek in utter fannish outrage at the same time? Because I have a feeling I’m about to find out.” 4.“This is suddenly seeming veeery familiar…” 5.“Well, finally, I have only been asking for this for like fifteen years. T…

Got a signed copy of ToM, decided I would have it inscribed for a friend instead, and order a second numbered/signed book. They are all out! /cry Could back out on the friends book, but I want to get him to start reading the series again, and it doesn't get much cooler than this way... ok, mild spleen vent over. Guess I will pick up a copy at a local book store :(

So basically Ive been thinking recently that the Horn of Valere is supposed to be the Lights plan B, to be used in the event that the Dragon, the ultimate weapon, is turned Dark-that the Horn is supposed to summon Heroes, creating the rift in the Pattern that RJ mentioned when they attack the Dragon. Said rift I think would basically destroy the Dragons connection to the Pattern, making him just a normal man for the rest of this incarnation and thus easier to kill and get back on side via the rebirth system. And the reason that the Hornsounder is never the Dragon is of course a common sense thing, the Pattern will always make someone else blow it. This I think explain…

  19. Ive believed for sometime that Talmanes Is Demandred. In Gathering Storm Demandred is said to have been gathering an army. So that has to mean that he is a charatcer that is in command of an army. So it has to be a Character that we have met. I dont believe we have had a Talmanes POV. Not sure but I believe back in Lord of Choas. Talmanes Acts wired when they where talking about About Aes Sedai and the one power. Basicly he trys to avoid the conversation. Also I believe He was behind The assaination attempt on Mat by the Aiel at the camp of the Band of the Red Hand in LoC. Furthermore I Believe that Talmanes sent Nerim, even insists that Nerim goes with mat as his hand se…

Perrin spoke to the hero of the horn in the wolf dream. He assumed Hopper could see her because he acted so casually. This brought comfort to Perrin. It was as if Hopper was interacting to an old friend... He was very domesticated around her. Then, when she left. Perrin speaks with Hopper and hopper suggests that he was acting strangely and standing there talking to empty air. I think this was in book 4 or 5. I'm on my 3rd read through of the novels right now.

OK, so Avi made a gateway to seanchan, then forgot how. Later, when she is taught how to channel, she complains about how hard it is to do it. (well, as much as any Aiel complains...;) ) This got me thinking, when Moghedien was talking to Egwene about traveling: She doesn't think it would work, but what if that is exactly what Avi did? She's always been a little more direct then the other channelers in the book, and boring a hole sounds like something she would do without thinking while trying to escape. Thoughts?

Everyone knows about the viewing or foretelling of Rand in a boat with three women. I had always imagined it was a figurative viewing in that Min, Avhienda, and Elayne would be ferrying Rand to his death or recovery from a mortal wound. It seems to be a pretty important viewing but almost too vague. In my re-read of Lord of Chaos, in Chapter 19 "Matters of Toh", Avhienda freely tells Rand about a series of dreams the Wise Ones have had concerning him. She says they dreamt of him on a boat with three women, who's faces cannot be seen. There is a mention of scales tipping one way and then another. This is making me think that this might be an actual event, not a figurat…

  27. Throughout the books it's been made clear that Min's viewings are a thing of the Pattern, not of the Power. In the Gathering Storm chapter "Scents Unknown" Cadsuane, Min and Corele discuss her visions. Min explains that the only way her visions could fail to come true is if the Dark One wins and destroys the Pattern. However, it appears that the Pattern is already being warped. Following on from the events of Knife of Dreams and The Gathering Storm, we see the Pattern being weakened more and more as the Dark One's touch affects Randland. We see more and more "bubbles of evil," the dead walking, villages disappearing into the ground. This can only have been accelera…

I was thinking.. Why wouldn't the shadow have their own stock piles or angreal, sa'angreal, ter'angreal and the like stored away? I mean The white tower has been collecting them for ages why wouldn't darkfriends be doing the same? Also with the black ajah in the white tower wide spread for such a fair while why didn't they steal items of the one power over a period of time? why did they wait and steal a bunch only when asked to? Also why dont the forsaken use balefire when attacking Rand? i mean he's used it often enough now to assume that he'll continue to use it when they face him why do they continue to mess around with him in terms of trying to trap or turn him? H…
