Hi, I'm new to the forum and am only on The Shadow Rising (towards the end of it) so no spoilers please :). I felt the urge to post on here because no one else I know has read the series yet and I am raging at the utter incompetence of a majority of the Aes Sedei and wanted to vent and to see if anything improves. I'm just progressing through when Sanche has been removed as Amyrlin and it just seems that Moiraine and possibly Verin are the only Aes Sedei worth her salt and the status associated with such a being. The rest all just seem almost entirely useless at a time when they could be shining. I understand that it being such an cataclysmic time that it would be now…

After going through my umpteenth reread of the series, I have yet to figure out who observed Nynaeve eavesdrop. I am wondering if there is anything to suggest who it really was. This is in LOC "questions and answers" chapter, where they are trying to figure out ways through wards unsuccessfully, and later Nyn. is interviewed by Delana and Jayna, she decides to walk through the ward and eavesdrop from within the ward. It cannot be Tarna, Sheriam, nor Morvin, because those three voices are mentioned specifically. the last sentence of the chapter reads "Neither saw the woman watching them from the second story window." (or something very close). any ideas?

Seeing as I launched this after the cutoff here's the info again. The Who Knows What Collaborative Database is an attempt to compile comprehensive information about which characters know of which events. The twist is that anyone can edit it. Due to ToM spoilers now being out and about we have changed the structure of the database slightly. Accessible through the link below are two versions - a ToM spoiler version, and a spoiler-free version. In order to ensure people don't get spoiled the spoiler free version is now locked. BUT you can still edit the spoiler version. I will monitor both sheets and will carry across myself any changes to the spoiler versi…

"The only thing better than a double-cross is a triple-cross" Ladies and gentlemen, we have successfully out-foxed the master Aelfinn (Brandon) and received the answers to 20 questions! Here's what happened. Around 4 PM U.S. Pacific Time yesterday, Brandon challenged Dragonmount and Theoryland to compete against each other to find the last hidden clue in his GREAT HUNT. He encouraged us to fight over the bragging right. But we had other plans. He said each site could submit (5) Yes/No questions. Brandon was giving clues to where the codes were --really obscure clues-- and his assistant Peter would tease the Hunters every once in a while. They thought they w…

Anyone seen this? It's basically just Moraine speaking out her letter to Thom. But it's pretty cool. And I wonder if it's just something made for that book, or any kind of prelude into an upcoming movie. Which isn't Book1 supposed to be a movie soon!

  7. How long can a channelor live? I was looking at a timeline of the events during the Age of Legenda and it said that LTT lived for over 1000 years before the bore was made......I'm wondering how loing they can actually live for....

  8. note: I hope I'm posting this in the right section. If not, feel free to correct me moderators. ----- Dear readers, My teacher fed me the idea that for a cultural assignment I could also pick a writer or a series as a subject of research. I immediately thought of Robert Jordan and the Wheel of Time and how they dragged me into the fold of fantasy-fans and really got me back into reading again (something I had forgone on for a long time before that). I had always enjoyed fantasy as a form of art and in movies, but it was the Wheel of Time that reminded me of the fun in reading and the joy of using your imagination to form the world based on what was written. …

Hi guys!! Im going to be getting some artwork done for a tattoo. I would like to use Advendesora as the base of my libra scales (with the wheel of time being the center!) and I was hoping there existed some artwork that I could base off of. I saw one of the covers had Rand in the front with a shadowy version of it in the background, but other than the leaf icon itself, and some CGI rendering from what looks like a SNES game (haha) I cant find anything good. I've visited this site: http://www.wotmud.org/directory/art.php And gone through everything there, along with the gallery here. Unfortunately 80% of what I find is on old or expired domains. Most of…

Does anyone know when we will be able to buy the prologue? Personally I would be willing to go without sleep Monday night to get it as soon as possible. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I did not see a better.

I know that Elayne, and Nyn. both tried to destroy the original band, but mog. said that it was made from cuendillar and as expected they could not destroy it. So how did rand manage to destroy it? I know he was using the true power and all, but even that doesn't seem able to destroy cuendillar on its own, or Ishamael would have simply used it to destroy all of the seals when he was spun out, wouldn't he?

balefire is said to burn a thing out of the pattern itself thus making it so dangerous/useful. in an erlyer book i do not recall exactly which Aviendha is killed by one of the forsaken. she is then brought back by Rand who kills said forsaken with balefire. it is said or implied that she is brought back because the forsaken is burned out of the pattern and therefore never was. so Aviendha was never killed except in the memories of Rand. so in the latest book The Gathering storm, why is it that Min Farshaw remembers being strangled by Rand and thereafter wears the bruises to prove it. shouldn't these actions be burned from the pattern as well because rand was being…

Moridin wants to end the world, right? Why doesn't he just continually use the True Power to make gateways and things until the Pattern rips apart? Whenever he does things with the TP, the description always goes something like "The world screamed around him, the pattern unraveling and groaning as he twisted to make the Gateway." I feel like eventually, he would mess up the world using it. Thoughts?

TGS ch48, pg 745 "the black knife that spun around Beldeine's head recently could mean anything". Seems like a trip to the WT and a run in with a blood knife is in store for her. Or perhaps a she'll be the victim of a gray man.

There's a new interview with Brandon Sanderson up at Pat's Fantasy Hotlist. http://"http://www.fantasyhotlist.blogspot.com/" In it he talks about ToM towards the end. Apparently Jason HAS read it already, now I'm even MORE impatient for his review! :P

  20. after the complete thrashing of the great lord's minions in the gathering storm, can the bunch of losers led by the most ineffectual deity this side of the ocean muster enough fight in them to actually hurt the forces of light? i mean, i am so sick of seeing bad guys meeting their end after every book literally. AT this rate, there won't be anyone to fight at the last battle save for some worthless shadowspawn and dreadlords who could be over powered by callandor alone

I'm reading New Spring while waiting for Towers to come out. A weird line caught my eye right at the very beginning. Moiraine and Siuan are attending the Amrylin and the Keeper (Tamra and Gitara) when Gitara has the Foretelling that the Dragon has been Reborn. Then she keels over and dies. Tamra swears them to secrecy. "You will tell no one about this, not for any reason. If necessary, lie. Even to a sister. Gitara died without speaking. Do you understand me?" I bolded the part that makes no sense. How could Tamra speak a bald-faced lie like that? Surly, that must be a mistake. Maybe there is supposed to be some sort of "(You will tell everyone only tha…

I figure some detailed discussion on them may help. The two codes have three words in common, one of which is a VARIATION on a Very Important Word (which is neither 'gathering' nor 'storm') in The Gathering Storm. My thoughts are... Aura instead of Halo (as in Halo of Blackness) Threads instead of Veins (as in Veins of Gold. Threads of Gold). What other important words with variations were there.

  23. Brandon Sanderson is on tour right now to support his latest release THE WAY OF KINGS. While on tour, he's been hiding Wheel of Time bumper stickers with a clue printed on the back in the various stores he's visited and posting the locations on Twitter. When you take it to his official website and input it, it decrypts part of a passage of text. Fans have either found or guessed the majority of the clues and decrypted most of the text. However, one of the final clues has evaded us. Our only hint from Brandon is that it's "outside the US". Earlier today on Twitter, Brandon announced that he would allow the members of Dragonmount.com and Theoryland.net to ask him FIVE …

I purchased at a thrift store today a teaser book and I was wondering what exactly it was used for or what it was exactly and how rare, or common, it may be. It is the first 18 chapters of tEotW. On the copyright page it states that the "readers introductory edition of the first 18 chapters of The Eye Of The World: First printing 1994". The cover is the same as the full edition of tEotW however it has a blue starburst with the word free on it as well as having free printed on the spine. On the rear of the book is a white box that says "courtesy of:" and then is left for the information which mine has none. The book list on the back states that LoC is "coming this November…

Avhienda has the ability to sense Ter'angreal, but what about Sa'angreal meant for men? How possible could it be that Lan's heavy golden ring is really the Ring of Tamerlyn passed down in his family from generation to generation? I know nothing's been said that could support this theory but it's the only ring in the story that has been there from the beginning and it just seems like the perfect candidate

I wonder if (when) Moiraine is rescued from the Tower, will she look the same? Stupid idea: She will not look the same. There is a link between Suian and Moiraine that is mentioned in detail at the beginning of New Spring (I'm in the middle of a re-read waiting on ToM to come out). When one channels, the other feels a tingling sensation. It is mentioned even in TGH when Moiraine meets with Suian in her study. Could it be that we get proof of some "mysterious" woman is actually Moiraine through this tingle sensation? Will it be relevant at all? or is it just some insignificant detail that is nice, but meaningless?

I think the big thing that hit me in tGS about Egwene's storyline, in reflection, is how she was so clearly set up to be "of all Ajahs." It is clear that while the Amyrlin Seat is of all Ajahs in theory, in general the Aes Sedai's perceptions of the current Amyrlin is coloured by the Ajah from which they were raised. I doubt there is a single Seat so much as mentioned in the entire series where the Ajah they were wasn't mentioned - immediately. Egwene was already going to get around this simply by dint of being raised from accepted, but I think her time in captivity was crucial for each ajah to see she could be one of them. This post is perhaps overly thorough and ta…

I really used to dislike her character, but I just got done with (rereading) tGS To be Forged Again and I find myself re-examing her. She has really taken on the Amyrlin Seat and the Stole. Wow! Never thought I would like her, but I find myself (grudgingly) feeling props for her. But I still will never like Elayne.
