  1. Hi there, i decided to sign up for this question but have been reading for some time. So here it comes: Is each person in each of his lifes able to develop a new personality or is the character tied to the soul? (Imho there must be an influence else whats the point of reincarnation Our only source (I think) are the heroes tied to the horn, as they are, Rand including, the only ones of which it can be figured out whom they rebirthed in. A few clues i have been able to gather from my memory: - In TAR the heroes, at least Brigitte and possibly Gaidal as we meet only those, do have a certain character (she helps the girls on occassion because she thinks…

  5. Started by mb,

Up until the Ashaman Warders came, Arangar has lived with the rebel Aes Sedia. She is last seen with Delana (and Delana's servant [Miesa]) going to the Traveling grounds. This thread is to discuss/guess their current location. My guesses (in order of probability): -Some private location owned by Delana or Delana's family -Arad Doman (to seek and/or persuade Graendal) -Tear/Illian/Cairhien (to seek Rand) -Altara (to seek either Mat or Perrin) -White Tower (to seek either Egwene or Mesaana) -some place assigned through a dream (or after a visit to Shayol Ghul) -place Balthamel lived at before becoming Forsaken (Arangar is Balthamel's resurrected form)

  6. Started by Leatherleaf,

Aha! I have finally discovered a use for the Green Ajah. I believe it is the only real way they can live up to their name 'The Battle Ajah.' Prior to the Last Battle, each Green should bond as many Warders as possible, I'm thinking 10 or more. Then, as they face the shadowspawn at the Blight, each Green shall put herself in as much danger as possible (I know it's not really necessary for fighting against shadowspawn, but just hear this out), with her Warders with her. Then, the Greens should start channeling, bursting the trollocs asunder, as I'm sure they have thought about. However, here is where they do the most damage... Kamikaze tactic! The Greens should run in …

I asked this in the middle of some other thread, but no one commented. However I'd still like to get some of the big brains on these boards to comment and offer insights. Do you think Demandred hates Moridin? Do you think he feels slighted by the Dark One? Passed over for Ishamael despite having earned, in his own mind, the right to be Nae'blis? Remember in the beginning of LoC, the DO told Demandred he MIGHT be named Nae'blis if he performed well in the task the DO set out for him, then the novel ends with Demandred saying "Have I not done well, Great Lord?" and the DO laughing, not out of spite, but presumably because he is pleased with how well Demandred has d…

  8. I remembered an interesting piece of information while listening to the audio book of New Spring. During her test to become Aes Sedai, we get a glimpse of Moiraine's rank. She sees a dress striped all the way down the front, in the manor of the high ranking lords and ladies of Cairhien (even though the dress itself was a year out of style). She also thinks at one point that in Cairhien there are very few people who can give her orders. Most importantly, after she passes her test and is raised to the shawl she tells Suiane that she fears the Hall intends to put her on the Sun Throne (remember, this is just after the Aiel war, when King Laman had just been killed)…

Anyone see the movie, yet? There was one phrase that they used that, well, if you saw it you know what I mean. "I see you" Anyone catch that? (Besides the other stolen concepts, it was a beautiful movie... but there were a few items that felt borrowed from other sources).

  10. Started by Jeremey03,

Just started reading the series again and in TGH I just noticed some slight forshadowing in a conversation between Moiraine and Siuan. They are discussing the consequences they face if their plotting about Rand is discovered by the White Tower. In reference to the two previous Amyrlins who were stilled, "Tetsuan and Bonwhin were kept in the White Tower as servants. Scullery maids, who could be pointed to as cautions as to what can happen to the mightiest. No one can rally around a woman who must scrub floors and pots all day. Pity her, yes, but not rally to her." Now I realize Egwene was never stilled, but she was made to scrub floors and take penance, and she was able to…

I'm curious as to what some of your thoughts are on the mentality of a Myrddraal. How do they think, what emotional and intellectual capacity do they have? I for one see a Myrddraal as something that is at least partly human, yet has some essential human component severed from it both in a physical sense and a spiritual sense. The Eyeless have no souls, and in one way or another are tainted and warped by the Dark Ones influence. All of this is on top "being out of phase with reality as we know it" paraphrasing Aginor. This to me leads me to compare them at least psychologically to a sociopath. At least that would be a human diagnosis for the mentality, but f…

  14. As many of you may know, a while back wizards of the coast came out, with RJ's aid, a d20 game based on the Wheel of Time. I have played this game and it is very well made. I beleive they need to make a 2nd edition of the game. and I want to see how many people agree.

  15. I was re-reading the Guide book a couple days ago, specifically the biography of Ishamael, and it reminded me of what he told Lews Therin in the EoTW prologue (and also told Rand later in that same book). He said something about how Lews Therin was not the first person to call himself "Dragon", and that the battle between the Dragon and the Dark One had gone on for all of eternity. Furthermore, in the past, some Dragons had actually switched sides and fought for the Dark One. I may not be getting this all correct, so feel free to correct me, if you have actual quotes. I'm sure someone will anyway. But then I was thinking also about how some particularly powerf…

So, we know that it's possible to forcibly convert a channeler to the "Dark Side". It seems like such a big point I'm surprised that there hasn't been any living evidence of it happening yet. Or is there?

We know that Aes Sedai hierarchy is governed by 3 things, in a specific order: Strength in the One Power, age, time spent as accepted and novice. If someone's stronger than you, you have to defer or obey, depending on difference in strength. It also seems that many posts are (often) held på those strong in the Power. I.e. Galina was strong and was Ajah Head. Pevara, Yukiri, Saerin, Romanda, Lelaine all are/have been Sitters, and are notably strong. Merean, Siliviana and Sheriam were strong, and were Mistress of Novices. On so on. So what I was thinking about is, how do Aes Sedai treat weaker Sisters, who have accomplished much? Say that we have a Gray who's weak, an…

Like it says, I was talking to her about it and she said she only got to the fifth book, found it repetitive and quit....I'm ending the fifth book now and I don't see this. I can kinda see the first three being repetitive, but only a little. The fourth seemed a lot different to me and so does the fifth so far. Do any of you think there is any repetition in the series??

Does anyone else think that the Title of the Horn , Valere is somehow related to Egwene's last name , al'Vere ? The two words are almost identical , is it just a randomness or it will mean something significant later ?

  21. I am not talking about the obvious differences such as the true power, wolfkin etc. but small details that seem to set randland apart from our world. Such as Capital letters are audible Women have an unsual propensity for visibly blushing to signal emotion. People who are absorbed in thought have a tendency to speak their contemplations out loud around other people without realising they are working their mouths. This is such a regular thing people even fear they might have accidentally done it at times (and of course, don't know if they have). Sniffing and snorting and other non-vocalised sounds are commonplace means of communication. Any other s…

  22. Started by Leatherleaf,

First, let's recap the roles that the other Ajahs have been fulfilling for the past hundreds of years: Red - Gentling dangerous men and battling their followers (if they proclaimed themselves Dragon) Blue - Righting many wrongs, a broad list, but Blues are active Yellow - Well, the Yellow does seem to be a bit lazy, but they seem to be around in wars to Heal, as well as just lend a Healing hand while travelling abouts White - Discussing logic, which logically is illogical to do in an illogical world, but at least they're happy Grey - Advising rulers, mediating, stopping wars, etc. Brown - Learning, assisting other Aes Sedai who need knowledge, actually quite a…

Has anyone else wondered why many of the Green Ajah are implied to continually get down and dirty with their Warders, but there is no army of babies in the Tower? I have some theories on Aes Sedai contraception. 1. Power-wrought Hysterectomy - perhaps a Green can convince a Yellow to tie her tubes (I'm not familiar with the surgery, so I'll leave it simple). 2. Air Condoms/Air Diaphragms - an easy flow of Air to produce either a condom or a diaphragm, perhaps a touch of fire for a warming sensation, who knows the secret weaves of the Green? 3. Delve/Heal Abortion - I think if this form were common, the Yellow Ajah would start a crusade 4. No Contracept…

??? Is anyone else to a slight bit miffed how Rand could establish an organisation and then not really be that concerned with it afterwards. Its like he shows up gets pissed off with Taim, watches Taim blungeon someone with the power so hard the poor soul is knocked out and no healing is offered to the guy. Okay that would make be stop and think that 'mmmm maybe Taim isn't suited for leading and training new and impressable channellers'. The ecessive use of force and the apparent lack of discipline doesnt inspire confidence. Lack of discipline in a fighting unit isnt ideal either. Next time he shows up he hands out badges to them and Taim isn't exactly impressed a…

  26. Ok, something has been bugging me for a while but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Now during my re-read I think I've found voice: Was there a lot of Darkfriends helping push forward the deposing of Siuan Sanche? Elaida is probably not Black Ajah, but her Keeper is (Alviarin). The head of the Red Ajah (Elaida's Ajah) is also Black (Galina). Is that it? Was there more dissention? How did they really get Siuan deposed? Surely the Tower, which is slow to act and has been preparing for Tarmon Gaidon for 3,000 years wouldn't fall apart over discovery of Rand. Surely this conversation had come up before: "Do we help the Dragon? Do we capture him?…

have you ever heard a song and got a mental picture in your head that would fit characters or scenes. right now 3 come to mind. for the WoT movie(s) .... picture if you will ... "We Will Rock You" by Queen Mat, Rand and Perrin leading the forfront of battle up the slope of Shaygoul. Mat has blown the Horn, Perrin braing the flags of Rand, Lewstherin and Manatherin. Behing them are the Heroes of legend, behind them are the Aiel beating spears to bucklers and marching in time to the tune of "We Will Rock you". then ofcourse the other armies and Aes Sedia behind them.... Mat and Rand take up the Vocals while the Darkone and his minons sit atop Shaygo…

  29. I have read these books many times. The earlier ones more than the later ones to be sure. Whenever I have read them in the past, I spent so much time caught p in the story that I know I missed many details. This time through I promised myself that I would not read forward frantically. After all, at this point I know the story fairly well and there is not need to race forward to find out how the scene at Dumai's Wells will end, etc.. I think the thing that I missed on the most in reading these books previously is just how darn funny Robert Jordan is. What a tremendous job he does throughout the story maintaining the caricatures he creates of individuals, cult…

  30. Ok there is what two, three seals left on your man Shaitan's prison. He has a pretty strong grip on the pattern we are lead to believe. Possible examples would be the unnatural weather, bubbles of evil, cahnging rooms and spoilage of food. Okay not all of these might be caused by the dark one, some could be due to Rand and he whole being tied to the land like the fisher king of arthurian legends. I think we can safely assume hat the weather was the DO, the black Ajah stated it and the bowl of winds worked. So with a couple of seals still on the prison the DO has a pretty strong grip on the pattern. Now what is everyone afraid of. The DO breaking free of his prison a…
