In TFoH, there's a part when Rahvin meets up with Lanfear, Demandred, and Graendal. When Granedal steps through her gateway, they make a point to mention that one of the servants was an old man. Any ideas on who he could be? Graendal isn't known for scooping up people who don't mean anything. Personally, when I read it, the first person I thought of was Noal.

Before I forget, happy release day to you all. My local book store has my copy on order. Can hardly wait. This topic popped into my head as I was waking up this morning. I don't remember seeing it here before. With so many topics, I might have missed it. Anyway... Some babies are born with the ability to swim. Some can be taught. Some adults die never being able to learn. The analogy is slim, but it might help to get my point across. Some channelers are "born with the spark". Some can be taught. Most Randlanders will never learn to channel. Now...finally...here's the thought behind the topic: Will Elayne's babies be able …

It would never happen in the books, but it would be funny to consider what would happen. All the Forsaken would lose immortality, the reincarnated ones would backtrack to their old selves, and Old Cully would go back to being a simple beggar. That and Shaidar Haran would probably be on the receiving end of a lot of jealous darkfriends. Or the balefire would backfire, the Dark One defying logic an all, and rebound on the user, making that person unravel their own Thread. Which would be weird, because that in turn would unravel the fact that they BF'd the dark one, which would have never made it happen, which would backtrack the DO's contradiction of order, tur…

There's no point in starting 3 threads, im just gunna plop it all down here, heh. First off, I've read the books MANY times, but I just, for the first time, started listening to the audio tracks.....WOW, very cool. It adds a whole new element, really, its the closest thing to watching a movie version. The vioce acting is so perfect. Anyway, I really recomend it to any one who hasnt listened. The main thing I was thinking about had to do with Portal Stones. Its clear that they are doorways to other dimentions, other "earths". Well, same Earth, different possibilities. Basically like the show Sliders, if anyone remembers it. I was thinking, the Archways t…

1. What was with the "ripples" in KoD, and why is it that nobody except Faile and Perrin I think experiences them? Yeah, maybe others did too, but nobody seems to think on or remember them. 2. Was Isam a wolfbrother-darkhound? 3. In WH, were the illusions of Torval and Rochaid (or it could've been Gedwyn, not sure) Fain's work or more ghosts? And what about the fog in ACOS when Rand goes to the rebel camp? Was that Fain or miasma?

I started reading these books back in 1992 or 93, when I was still in High School, and they have been with me most of my Adult life. I used to have a mind like a steel trap, but now that I am in my Mid 30's, I find myself forgetting a lot about this series, even the events that occurred in the last book which I read about 3 1/2 years ago. Up to now, I have read each new book as it has come out, and been able to keep up, or refresh my memory as they have come out and am usually good to go by the middle of the book as all the major plot threads have been detailed.. I am up to speed with them.. I worry about this one.. I cannot remember names of minor characters.. etc.. …

Right im fairly new to the series (only up to the start of book 6 LOC) and im having a few problems understanding "Ages". This is how i understand it. Each spoke of the wheel of time is an "age" and by the time the same age comes again no one recognises it. Does this mean the same events will happen etc? If so then if the dragon is being reborn again then surely the current ages would be the age of lews therin etc before the breaking of the world AKA the age of legends? but if that is so then why is everyone so crap at using the one power. OR is it a differnt age that the dragon is reborn in as if it was the age of legends again then it wouldnt be the dragon being "r…

Quick question. The numeral III. We know it can't refer to only 3 oaths per person (the BA hunters have got ppl to swear a 4th oath) - so do you think the number just refers to the rod? Or could it be that it divides the lifespan by 3 or something? Which numeral was the one Sevanna got?

The purpose of this thread is to discuss music which you associate with the Wheel of Time. Obviously different characters and nations in Randland give every reader a different feeling, and sometimes that feeling is shared with a musical genre, a band/singer, or a particular song. It could be the rhythm, the lyrics, or a personal association that you have, but sometimes music just seems to fit. Sometimes you can imagine a song being played in a tavern, or by a gleeman. However, even modern music that has no place in the actual setting of the books can apply, in your imagination, to the series. An example of a personal association for me is the music from "The Lege…

What do Robert Jordan's titles represent within each book? Here's my take: Eye of the World - Obvious The Great Hunt - Again obvious, it's the hunt for the Horn of Valere The Dragon Reborn - I assume this is because Rand's proclaimed himself to the world by the end? Shadow Rising - Why this is known as The Shadow Rising I have no idea. It seems no less dark than any of the others, except perhaps the direct hand the Forsaken take in causing Rand trouble? The Fires of Heaven - Balefire. Balefire plays such a huge role in this book from beginning to end, that it seems to fit into the title well. Lord of Chaos - Well, the increased Forsake…

Ok Ive read the books 3 times through and maybe on or two of them once or twice more than this, excluding crossroads, and I cant figure out why. What is it about the books that you like, find original, can't get enough of and basically love more than any other fantasy series. I love the detail and the interconnectivity of it all. Almost nothing in the book is put in just because its cool and some things keep popping up despite the lack of coolness and popularity, this is something I even like. ???

I noticed the review posted by Jason for The Gathering Storm review. However, has Dragonmount reviewed the other books as well? I was also wondering if there is a website somewhere that collects all the critics reviews for the books? Similar to like Metacritic for electronic media? Finally, I was looking at some of the reviews on Amazon and I could not believe the overwhelming negative reviews against Crossroads of Twilight. I don't let Amazon influence me only in my purchases, but it averaged only a star and a half with almost 2,500 ratings! I have only read up to Winter's Heart and plan to read through the entire series, but is CoT really that bad? Any info wo…

Well how are ya? Does anyone think the male channelers will have to take some oaths like the Aes Sedai? I know it will not happen in the story before the end but they should it might make people less unsure around them and Rand shouldn't have to worry about renagade Asha'men as that should me one of the oaths - Do not attempt to kill the dragon Reborn ,even if you try without the one power, as we kinda need him and all ya know the prophecies and so on and so forth. Although they could , the they being the DF Asha'man or just not nice guys Asha'men for example Taim he's just a sour puss, just do what the black Ajah do. And what would a DF Asha'man be called. It coul…

I am making a spoiler thread here so that people in the other thread looking for distribution and availability information are not accidentally spoiled. I have not read all of it yet so this is kind of a place holder.

Ok so, I think the wounds on Rand's side have some extra part to play besides the Christ allegory. It's been discussed here before how strange it is that Ish fought Rand with a staff and lost when he could have just blown him away. Maybe victory wasn't his intent, maybe there is something more seed-like to the un-healable wound just waiting for the right time to blossom. -Rin

Jordan said we have NOT seen Demandred's third-age alias on stage. I'm one of those personally of the opinion that he was originally Taim, but that Jordan changed it when everyone figured it out early on, but that's neither here nor there. The question becomes, is it possible to know who he is? Is there anyone important that's been mentioned that we haven't seen onstage? My personal answer for that is YES. And one name hops right out at me. We know that Dem and Osan'Gar were said to have been given the assignment to keep al'Thor under their thumb. Osy was posted at the Black Tower, so it makes some sense for Demandred to be there as well. And …

I dont remember who had the conversation about how much one can alter your destiny within the pattern, a farmer have some controll of his life but not enough to set himself up as a king unless the pattern wanted him to, or something close to this summary :P. Now we have something tugging at Perrin and Mat to join Rand all the time it seems and Mat seems more than stuck in it, is this the patterns will or something else? Did the pattern want Perrin to journey to the two rivers, because if it didn't a blacksmith became something alot more than just a blacksmith. Of course this isn't proof of anything I just found it interesting, any thoughts?

i threw this out in the spoiler board, but nobody bit on it. i didn't finish my reread, i couldn't suffer through CoT for the third time. anywho, i thought i read a moridin pov (or some other forsaken) where they were thinking/talking about devising the seanchan prophecies, even going so far as taking credit for starting the consolidation. from a tuon pov, we get the mentality that rand is supposed to bow to the crystal throne. if the prophecies that they believe are a farse, that makes the seanchan an unknowing tool of the shadow. point is, i believe this pov i'm speaking of was from CoT of KoD, but haven't read either of them since 2005. can somebody confirm or di…

I just finished re-reading the 3rd book again, and I noticed that Hammer Gaidin said to the students that the "greatest blademaster of all time" was beaten once, by a farmer with a staff. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when Rand and Ishy fought above Falme, Rand had his sword, and Ishy had a staff. Soooo... does that mean Rand A. Go extremely lucky. B. Is even BETTER than Jearom, the greatest blademaster of all time, C. It was a deeper plot by Ishy O.o.

So I have a question about Warder Bonds, and more specifically about the bond betwen Rand and Alanna. It has been stated that a Warder dies shortly after his Aes Sedai dies, for various reasons, grief being prominent. We also know it is possible for the Warder to survive his Aes Sedai, if bonded again and given purpose. Now what I am wondering is how Alanna's death would effect Rand. I find it unlikely he would die, given that he definitely has a strong enough goal to keep going. Would he just become really depressed or would it not effect him that much. I feel that a large component of the Warder's death/grief is the emotional ties to the Aes Sedai. As I was w…

On my current reread of the series I noticed something Cadsuane said to Rand when they were meeting with Caraline Damodred, High Lord Darlin, Toram Riatin, and the rebels concerning his return to Andor because Cairhien was no place for him, Is this clever RJ ironic foreshadowing, or some sort of fortelling by Caddy? So hopefully Rand has learned not to stick his fingers in the fire in the future...
