  1. Tor/ Forge Books and www.DRAGONMOUNT.com have come together to host an exclusive new event that will be run by Dragonmount. This event will be a reality show much like the extremely successful Survivor television show, and even has a Grand Prize of $50 000.00! The show will run for a 40 day period, starting July 1st until August 9th. It will be run entirely online, and you will be required to have a webcam and a microphone for the show. We will be dividing the contestants up into two teams and running a series of Wheel of Time related challenges in which the teams will have to come together to complete, and like Survivor, the losing team will be required to vote one …

I try to do at least 1 nice, unexpected thing every day. I try to do a random nice thing for some random person, just to make them smile or brighten their day up. There is too much negativity in our world today. I'm not trying to rack up brownie points or sound like a saint. I'm far from it! I just think that by making someone happy, they might pass it on, and make more people happy. How many times have we had a crappy day and grumped at others? they might get grumpy and grump or bitch at others, and so on. Snowball effect. By making at least 1 person happier, they may pass it on and have a happy snowball effect instead! You would be surprised …

  3. Well, I finally read Bakker's Prince of Nothing. The world Bakker creates is very impressive, with the Mandati and their nightmares of Seswatha and the first Apocalypse an especially haunting image. But the story is just so bleak; the characters without exception are bloodthirsty and narcissistic. Serwe was the only character I felt the slightest sympathy for. (Well, at first I liked Achamian but the ending of TTT showed him to be as self-serving and childish as anyone.) Its very reminiscent of the original Dune books but the characters are almost as unlikeable as Goodkind's. So I'll probably read The Judging Eye, but I'm firmly on team Mog-Phareau.

  5. The Band's search for its Dream Band continues in March. With Within Temptation's Sharon den Adel winning the position of Female Vocalist, she joins Carlos Santana, the guitarist, and Geddy Lee, the bass player, in our Dream Band. Now our focus shifts to the world of male vocalists. And there are a host of activities surrounding this theme, which you can find highlighted below. NOMINATE YOUR BEST MALE VOCALIST Until Sunday 14th March 2010, I am looking to you to nominate who you think are the best male vocalists. Between 8 and 16 is what I am looking for, and those nominated will go into the "It's A Knockout" contest to decide who takes the role of Male Vocalist…

  7. Miranda Silver is a smart young woman about to start her first year at university. She also suffers from pica, an eating disorder which gives her an appetite for chalk, and has a variable relationship with her father, her twin brother Eliot and her mother Lily. When Lily is killed on a visit to Haiti, Miranda finds herself caught up in unusual events at the family home in Dover. White is for Witching is an unusual novel, a haunted house story with a difference. The book moves between several different points of view - Eliot, Miranda's best friend Ore and, oddly, the house itself - and an omniscient viewpoint focused on Miranda herself, the shifts sometimes occurring …

Hey all, Some of you may know this but I'm sure a few of you don't yet, so I'll try to briefly explain what this is about. Several weeks ago, Kara and myself were kind of tricked into hosting an online radio talk show and to our surprise found it to be quite fun. The name of the show is G-Spot and yes, it's not PG13. Though don't be alarmed by it, it's not a sex talkshow but there can be the occasional joking around, bantering or tongue-in-cheeck comments that cross the line of the PG13 rule. What G-spot is about is basically a bunch of friends sitting around talking about a specific topic each week. We've opted for a very relaxed, casual and freestyle f…

  11. Hello all, I have been reading WOT for 15 years. It was the first fantasy series and the only that I have read. I am in desperate need to get myself involved in another series but have no clue what i should start. I spent 3 hours today in the book store just staring at the vast options. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Im just nervous about starting something new and not have it be as good as WOT. Something with great character developement would be wonderful.............Thanks!

I posted in a different thread about this, but I don't know if anyone saw it. I want to start a musical collaborative. We can send parts back and forth and see what we can come up with. It's not limited to any genre, and doesn't have to about WoT. So, let me know if you're interested, what instrument you'd like to play, and what bands you think are your influences. Come on guys, lets make this happen. -Rin

Another thread got me to thinking about this. Has anyone read all these books? Did they get any better? I really enjoyed #1 and 2 I think. I had to TRY to finish #3 and when I bought #4, I just never could finish. Had a pretty cool concept going (The Dedicates and bloodsteel or whatever). I rarely just quit reading a series once started, but this didn't cut it for me.

Hi everyone! First of all, I must start with the fact that I’m a HUGE WOT fan. Always have been. Therefore, I felt the feedback and ideas of other amazing fans would be the best choice for what I’m doing. For what you ask? I’m working on a little project that requires me to be a WOT character. It’s too tough to judge which role would fit me the best… so I ask this of you: Based on the photo below, which WOT character do you feel I fit the most (if any)? If the answer is “none,” that’s fine too; however, please, I only ask that there are no overly negative responses (this is for fun!). THANK YOU! ~ K

  16. Warriors is a multiple-author, genre-swapping anthology. The only thing these twenty stories have in common is that a warrior of some kind - a soldier, a mercenary, a religious fanatic, a cowboy, even a serial killer who considers themselves on an important mission - is involved. The stories move between genres, with SF stories followed by crime thrillers followed by fantasy tales followed by historical fiction, the mainstream and the speculative brought together in a manner I haven't really seen before. It's an interesting move. As Martin says in his introduction, modern bookstores segregate the genres apart from one another and seem to encourage people - readers an…

  17. I went to get me a new book. I actually went to get that book Song of Fire and Ice or something like that as I have heard alot about it. I didn't see it though and came across BS's book one for Mistborn. So I got it and read the prologue and chapter one. I got to say, I have no idea whats going on. They got these slave dudes running around scared and mentally beaten. They got ash falling from the sky and all kinds of stuff I just don't get. I am sure it will make sense later. Oh I think they are called Skaa or something. We got some new ranks of leaders and some immortal leader who loves his people, clearly. Anyways it will be fun to see where this goes. At one point…

I'm looking for potential sponsors for JordanCon. I've already got commitments from Dragonmount (natch) and Tar Valon. I know there's a gazillion smaller sites out there and they could benefit from the larger exposure of even a small ad in a convention program. So if you know of such a site, gimme a link so I can contact the owners with a price sheet.

  23. A quick post to give the latest news from the Band of the Red Hand Social Group. The Band of the Red Hand Social Group is the process of returning everything back to DM after many years away. As a result, you will see a lot more new boards (both public and private for members of the Band). The move back means many new activities within these boards, which are transferring across from our off board site (which, indecently, is being locked and used for archive purposes). Direwolf Jon stepped down as Under-Commander during February. That meant the Band needed a new member amongst the Senior Staff. Jeannaisais moved up to Under-Commander and 2iC of the Band. And I …

Those are MY 3 - What are YOURS??? P.S. - In ASOIAF, It is made clear for awhile that Jamie Lannister's mythical reputation with his sword may well be exaggerated...of course...we later find out (In The Whispering Wood) that it is not exaggerated at all. Love him or hate him, Jamie Lannister with two hands and a sword is a BAD -A$$!!! One other I may think about......Arutha…

  26. I think, imo, the best example for me is that I swear that Cersei Lannister reminds me so much of Elaida Sedai. Cersei will BE Elaida in another 20 years if shes not careful. Silk, Simkin and Fizban are pretty similar...theyre kinda similar to The Fool too. The Dark One and Sauron are sorta similar too. Ganoes Paran and Gawyn Trakand kinda remind me of each other alot - unfortunately. People talk about Terry Goodkind ripping off Jordan so much I can think of two of his characters that seem like carbon copies of two Eddings characters: Zedd = Belgerath and Shota = Vordai. Oh, and I have seen comparisons before of Roland and Sparhawk but that is one…

Did she just fall on her knife while collecting seed fruit for Wil's breakfast? Did she awaken herself from the dream because of all of her recent troubles? Did one of the characters murder her? Take your best guess by posting here. When it seems that interest is coming to an end, I'll disclose the truth. Since I can't give hints without giving away the answer to one of the three questions…

Hey, is anyone else coming to Minicon (in Minneapolis, Minnesota, April 2-5) this year? I've got the go-ahead from programming to put together a panel, and I'm looking for the right folks to be on it. The right folks will have: strong attachment to the WoT series, a good memory for how they felt during the time after RJ's death when nobody knew yet what was going to happen with the final book, and they will be able to talk about getting their copy of The Gathering Storm and what their reactions were. If you're interested in being on the panel, please send e-mail to LionessElise@gmail.com with a little bit of information about yourself and a few words about the topics…
