He's full of himself, and reading some of his interviews, he really really knows nothing. He just thinks he's smart.

That's one of the reasons I can't read anything Eddings wrote after the Belgariad. That and the fact that everything he wrote after that sucks.

Eddings from what I hear is something you use to introduce people to fantasy, and nothing more.

Pretty much. The Belgariad is good if you don't expect too much from it, and the surprise that Garion is really a king and has to fight Torak to the death is so obvious I'm not even concerned that I'm spoiling it for you in case you want to read it.

Noted, though I highly doubt I'll ever get around to reading it.
