I'm a member of a medieval reenactment group. The first thing i tried was archery of course. Problem was that the first two shots earned me a 15 cm bruise on the arm because i could hold the flaming thing well enough. So now, i'm part of their infantry where i fight with two daggers (i'm still as strong as a shrimp, so broadsword are not made for me). Who would have known that in real life, infantry would suit me best ?

Anyone besides Jea get the physical fitness bug lately? I am TERRIBLE at self-motivation, but after about six months of mulling it over (cost vs. how well, knowing myself, it will work), I bought a Nike+ Fuelband, which I've been wearing for about 26 hours so far. (Basically, Nike did to the pedometer what Apple's iPhone did to the boring flip-phone.) I really need to lose some weight, but I seem to only ever have motivation when it is impractical (i.e., when my 14-month old needs supervision, during the middle of a 4-hour class, when I need to do some reading for school, etc). Anyone else have that problem? What did you use to get around it?

What's on your Christmas list this year? I am honestly having trouble coming up with things to buy my friends and family this year. It would be lovely and convenient if they all gave me a Christmas list, but we all hate buying off lists, so it's not likely to happen XD Anyway, what's on your Christmas list? And what are you getting for your family? And that universal remote that is the tenth Doctor's sonic screwdriver is just awesome...

With so many different people on this site, I figure there must be a whole heap of different ways of celebrating Christmas represented between all of us. What do you eat? What do you do? When does Christmas start for you? I ask because it's finally turned December, so my dad will finally let me and my mum go Christmas crazy. That means I'm currently pumping out Christmas songs from our surround sound while we start thinking about decorating. I love Christmas, and even though we can't give gifts to one another for the holiday, I wanted to throw a Secret Santa party! How it works: You sign up. Santa decided to visit the Band a little early this year (because we're so awesome). All of the regiments heard about this visit and left rum cake and some of their best brew out for Father Christmas to sample. Unfortunately, Santa couldn't resist trying ALL of them and so he stands in the middle of the encampment singing loudly and off key, and shouting to all of the Band, Ho Ho Ho! Come and tell Santa what you want for Christmas! And with a very loud belch and a giggle, the jolly man plops down on his bum in the middle of the camp and waits for someone to tell him their Christmas Wish. (Be careful what you wish for. )

Anyone see this? It is airing right now on the U.S. west coast. It got a lot of bad PR from Julie Andrews fans (even though she endorsed the casting) and critique from the Von Trapps that it is being redone. (Nevermind that it is NOT a remake-- it is a broadcast of the stage production. The movie adaptation made a ton of changes, albeit good changes, but it makes comparison apples to oranges.) So far I'm not too impressed with the dialogue scenes from Carrie Underwood, and indifferent with the others. Musically, I think that so far it is great. And to satisfy the spot-fine... *shoots self with an arrow for the 4th time*

Keep your eyes peeled, and break out your rusty knowledge of Christmas carols, because you're going to need it! Starting on December 1st, we'll have the LAST Regimental Competition of the year! Details will be announced on the December 1st along with the first portion of the competition. All I can tell you now is that if you like caroling, you'll have an edge, and also that your timezones will NOT impact the outcome for this one for a change.

With T-Mobile's free data for life deal, I decided it was time to upgrade my device because I travel a lot, and hotel/airport wifi, and sometimes school wifi leave a lot to be desired at times. (Now if I can just sell my iPad 2 to cover half the cost...) Anyways, all that to say... my iPad Air arrived today! And after holding it, then holding the iPad 2, wow... the difference is pretty big. And heavy. And TOTALLY worth the extra few dozen meals of Ramen we'll be having to financially compensate!

Sets up a tent in the middle of everything, that somehow links every exit from every place in the Band to this tent here (think giftshop in Doctor Who, but in reverse), in order to welcome Poetstorm back to the Band! There's a large table filled with flaming shots, guinny & bandy (she can make an effort when she has to), banners and streamers add color to the currently pristine tent and there's a smell of tantalizing food coming from some covered containers. There are even mock bows with suction cup arrows, and rubber daggers for the guests to play with (uh, borrowed, from the Archers lockers) in order to honor the return of the Archer Poetstorm. A shadowy figure slinks its way across the camp. The figure seems to be sniffing the air and looking for something. “Ugh, what is that smell? Dice must be cooking again!” Staying in the shadows and turning away from Dice’s cookfire, the figure keeps moving. “Where did I leave that?” it says quietly to itself.
