Hello im having a few problems understanding a few things in WOT firstly its my first reread of WOT and during the TGH the trollocs wrote on the wall about lord luc and isamal (sp) and i really dont understand the concept of them 2 and slayer can someone please explain? Another question is how is rand related to Galad his mother was a maiden of the spear, i dont understand how tigraine etc fits into it? and how did moridin come into it? he wasnt mentioned as a forsaken or anything then all of a sudden came as nae-blis and how does he compare to shidar haran? Lastly when eliada was showing the seanchan how to make a gateway why didnt she just make one to the wh…

I have been rereading the series in preparation for the final book and I keep thinking about the 13 x 13. I was very concerned about it until I remembered something...Asmodean. He is starting his planning and scheming in the waste, and his plans are coming together. All of a sudden this half mad red head comes and starts causing troubles. Thankfully he is still connected to the Great Lor...oh crap. His connection has severed! If tSR Rand could sever Asmodean from the Dark One then there should be a fair amount of channelers who have the power to do it by AMoL. (they just don't know that they can, yet)

im on TDR for like the 30th time lol. ive always read it and not really given any thought to a bunch of things that go along with it. But this is what i came up with last night who is the voice that perrin hears in his dreams about callandor? is it the same voice that rand hears when he goes to tarwins gap the first time and is it the creator always wondered

I'm not saying I hate Rand with this thread, in fact I think he's a very good character particularly when he got darker. What I am saying is I think Rand should die at the end, as in not die and then Egwene or whoever brings him back five minutes later. I'd be okay if he died to be reincarnated again when the world needs another dragon, and it might sound silly but I think I would feel a little disappointed Rand did just cheat death somehow. I also kinda hope that the Dark One doesn't die. Not because he's such a wondeful person but because the Dark One has been around since the creation of the world and seems to me to be a very important part of the pattern. And if …

I tried reconciling the timelines in ToM by using VoG as the key marker. It occurs across several TLs. Rand's timeline reconciles with Perrin, Egwene, and Nyn, satisfactorily using this marker. Elayne's TL sort of reconciles. Mat's TL does not reconcile, there are very serious problems until the ToG sequence. Even there. we know when he went in, we don't know for sure, when he came out. Avi's TL is also not easy though we have a reference to Semirhage's death in TGS. Lan is almost completely out of the loop -- we know when Nyn gets the bond but Lan's TL doesn't have hard numbers. The BT TL is very hard to reconcile, if at all possible. In the cases of…

Had he been a Darkfriend for a very long time? Or did he turn just before he went to Tarwin's Gap? After that? During my last reread of the Great Hunt the question popped up in my mind and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since

So I just started rereading the series and I am done with book 1 and 2 and I had quite a few questions while I was reading them but I have forgotten most of them haha. Anyway two I remember are... Frist, can someone explain to me the point of the eye of the world scene? So you have this giant resivor of saidan which Rand uses to kill Aginor and wound Ish but how did he stop the Dark One? Was it just the army of Trollocs and Fades that was the big deal or did he somehow hurt the Dark One's power for a time? I just don't fully understand the point of everything or what the big deal unless it wa using the resivor up just so the Forsaken couldn't use it themselves. …

  8. Okay, The basis of this thread is my 'ideas' as to what the future of WoT holds. Since everything regarding it is, by definition, Speculation, Whats the harm in me throwing out my random thoughts on it? Recently, I've been reading the Dune Series. I started it way back when the rocks were soft, and opra was fat (the first time), never finished it. I finally did, as well as all the other novels (minus most of the prequels by his son, but did read his 'finishers' of the series assuming thats how the orginal author meant to finish it. If not as good as he would have done it.) Now, I know every sci-fi, every fantasy book, takes ideas from others, shares them, spits…

There's a month between VoG and the scheduled meeting at FoM. Rand's timeline traces between VoG+1 and VoG+29 We can trace Rand's actions on very few of those days. VoG+1 - he's riling up the Amyrlin VoG+2&3 - He's in Tear VoG +4-5 - He's in Bandar Eban VoG +27 - He's in Maradon VoG +28 - He's in Far Madding VoG +29 - He's at FoM. (See correction below) What does he do in-between on the 20-odd missing days? We know that he doesn't go to the BT. We know that he doesn't help Lan since he seems to be worried about keaving a friend to die. Does he have another go at the Seanchan? - There's no hint of that in the narrative. Thoughts any…

So, going through re-read number 8 at the moment, The Fellowship are just about to leave Emond's Field. I spot an innocent little bit of exposition that never sunk in before. The Dreadlords (those wonderful men and women that can channel aka dark non-Forsaken channelers) led the Myrddraal and the Trollocs in the Trolloc Wars. Now, I always assumed they led behind the Forsaken in the War of Power, and were generally killed out after that as part of the Sealing and Breaking. But it appears they somehow reappeared 1000 years later to coordinate the Trolloc Wars. My question is where did they come from? Then it occurred to me. Male Aes Sedai went mad, what about male and …

Hi all, Long time lurker first time poster. Re-reading the series at present and got a brain itch from The Great Hunt. Namely: Chapter 4 - Summoned "Still," Moiraine said, "three at the same time cannot be ignored. Has any sister been able to do a Foretelling?" It was a slight chance-few Aes Sedai had manifested any part of that Talent, even the smallest part, in centuries-so she was not surprised when Anaiya shook her head. Not surprised, but a little relieved I think this chapter is Moraine's point of view, but here she appears to say to herself that no Foretelling has appeared in centuries, but she herself was present when Gitara Moroso Foretold Ra…

So, after re-listening ToM here's what I'm thinking. Perrin might be the one who will actually take out Lanfear in TAR. Here's couple reasons: 1. He didn't kill any women yet (Rand and Mat did their share) and I think after accepting his responsibilities he would not blink to do it. He has a thought that he would take every man that is barely grown to defeat DO. This shows that he more than anyone else understand that sometimes things should be done no matter what. 2. I think that Rand will not be able to kill her (his previous confrontation with her is a forshadowing of it IMO). So why Perrin, you ask? Well, b/c he thinks that TAR is his domain and so does L…

In ToM, Chapter 4: the Pattern Groans Perrin comes across a random village. It is described as the following The Aes Sedai know nothing about its origins, it is not from any nation they know. So, could it be a village from Shara? Its certainly strange, nothing we have seen before. I dont think the village itself is of much significance in itself, but could it be a plot device, a kind of forshadowing of something to come? To be honest, i think its just something cool put in, but it is wheel of time. OTher possibilites are Seanchan village. In tGS prologue the Seanchan soldier with Tylee talks about his home, near a beach with palm tree…

  18. First time poster, wanted to see if anyone had thought of this or mentioned this in some way. Rand wants to kill the dark one, he said so to Morridin. Morridin laughed at the concept, basically saying what an idiot he was. Obviously, there are some major problems that would come after the last battle, the biggest beign the Seanchan and their ability to chain female (and possibly Male soon) channelers. So, this is what I see happening...maybe :) What happens is basically what happened at the Cleansing. The WoT universe is all about opposing powers, the one power is made up of two opposing halves. You had the taint and Mashadar opposing each other (and…

If Graendal was responsible (though the specifics make no sense) for Asmodean's death, then this thought, not theory, fits. Asmodean was weaker than rand before rand forced his talent up, and Taim was weaker than rand soon after asmodean vanished. (Logain is stronger than Taim, I would say quite a bit) Taim was captured in the borderlands and then "freed" at about the time that asmodean was killed, was asmodean tied to the body of taim? In FoH Asmodean was telling rand a story about watching a bird that was choking on a fish, and then in ToM Taim tells a story about watching a bird choking on a fish. Was taim replaced with Asmodean?

The limitations of the One Power are something we have heard all too often but do they really stand ? The ability to strengthen yourself with it is of course out of the question and yet there are ter'angreal that utilize it in that form (the bloodrings) so it seems that there are ways around that. How about some ter'angreal that are powered by the holder's channeling and give him increased durability or strength ? Bringing back someone from the dead is also impossible and a taboo yet we have seen that one can be ripped from the Tel'aran'rhiod (spelling?).Given how the dream functions (souls go there until they are reborn) couldn't one simply dreamwalk , find the o…

Not a particularly long, nor scholarly topic, just thought to bring to attention this from tGS. Which I am sure has been noted and discussed before, anyhow, I thought to bring it back up. Now usually, I would not take notice of this, but this is the wheel of time. Could it be that this hesitation is the reason for his death? Of course, the scenario would be much more complex than somebody suprising him and such, but could that reflex get him killed? Is it just Brandon's blunt(er) way of writing? Or could it actually be a foreshadowing? For myself, I am not sure, on the one hand, I can see the sentance as a forshadowing (although it is a lit…

  23. I'm trying to understand why the Green Sitters are so very anti-Egwene after the events of the Gathering Storm. Adelorna Bastine respected Egwene enough to nominate her for Amyrlin. Rubinde saw her resist Elaida's torture. You would think she had won the Green Ajah's support. Why are the Green Sitters against Egwene given all of these circumstances? The more I look, the more I think that it's just literary - needing enemies to move plot. I can't see any reason in the books to explain the diametric change of stance. Does anyone see something I've failed to note? Because I must admit, the Egwene parts of Towers of Midnight became a bit frustrating; and this…

I finished TGS in one week, and then ToM in 3-4 days, so I have started the series anew. That being said, I just read the below part from Eye of the World, right before Chapter 35. Rand is dreaming, and he is lugging the liter that Tam was in, only it's Thom in it and Thom is saying: "The Dragon is one with the land... and the land is one with the Dragon." I see that as a big foreshadowing to TGS and ToM, when you see how the land reacts to Rand's presence, but I was wondering: I don't recall the phrase being mentioned any where earlier in the book (especially to Rand), and I recall that in the later books he has similar foreshadowing Dreams. Does that make Ra…

While rereading for the umpteenth time, I noticed in the Great Hunt that Barthanes was ripped to shreds, and it points very likely to the Gholem. We know that the Gholem has under control of Samael initially. We know that Thom killed the King of Carahienen, Galladrin, but that didn't occur until after Barthanes was dead and after the grain warehouses were torched. So the question being, what motive did Samael have in killing the most powerful noble, because he couldn't have planned on Thom killing the king and starting a civil war. So this is my question to you, why was Barthanes killed?

As the title says, which of the "important" characters in WoT do you feel most sorry for, and why? I'll start. Alanna Mosvani. Poor girl didn't know what she was up to, when she bonded Rand. Not only does she have to live in fair because she don't know if Rand will kill her, as she can feel his anger. But she also have to live with knowing the feelings Rand has for the three other girls, and other interests. As Rand is a powerful and handsome guy, I would think it to be rather natural that Alanna would be fascinated by him. As her feelings grow, she will have to live with not only being denied the feelings in return, but she will know the golden veins Rand has for t…

AUDIBLE TOURNAMENT OF AUDIOBOOKS Just a quick note to mention that TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT has made it to the semifinals of Audible.com's annual tournament. (THE GATHERING STORM won last year's contest.) Right now, TofM is behind in the vote count to MATTERHORN by Karl Marlantes. http://audible.com/tournament I voted and so can you. Please hurry up and vote.
