  1. Started by Tothelight,

I recently started cataloging my library and came across a couple WOT books. One of them is a 1990 version of Eye of the World and the other two are both hardback versions of the Path of Daggers. I would appreciate some guidance from some of the possible collectors here on the value of the books. Thanks!

Then how can they go by False names like Moraine does with Lady Alys. Verin also used an alias in Far Madding but I think her excuse is pretty good. But I do recall Cadsuane seemed a little suspicious.

I'm curious. In the last chapter of Crown of Swords (you know, the one titled "Crown of Swords"), Rand makes multiple gateways to chase Sammael. But unless I'm wrong, he's never been to Illian before... How can he make gateways without skimming?

I searched for something like this but I couldn't find a topic. If this does exist, please feel free to direct me there and lock the topic. We all have characters we like but liking them and wanting to be them could be totally different. If you could be any character in the WoT, past or present, who would you want to be?

Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster, . This has been something that's been irking me for a while, and I've never seen any discussion on it. What exactly happened with Lan's warder bond when Moiraine 'died?' Clearly it was passed to Merylle, and he is taken by the 'death rage,' yet Moiraine didn't die. You could say it happened when Moiraine and Lanfear passed through the doorway, but then why didn't this happen in The Shadow Rising, when she used the one in the Stone? She had already set up the bond so that it would pass to Myrelle by then. I don't see the doorway melting being the cause, either, as there is still two other links, at least, to the world of …

Okay. So I've never read the Wheel of Time books before, just so you know. In fact, I'm new to the whole "epic fantasy" genre. But my roomie said that this book would be a great place to start. I've also been told that the online community would appreciate hearing from a new reader as I read the first book. Who am I to disappoint the online community, eh? Spoilers don't bother me. Sure, I'd like it if you don't mention what happens but it isn't the end of the world if people slip up. Just, you know, don't call me an idiot if I get things wrong. Oh, yeah, that's something else I was told: "theories and opinions are good." It's supposed to be complicated …

I started reading the books in about july last year finished them all and started my reread straight away. The thing i noticed within the first 5 chapters is how much foreshadowing there was, egwene being amyrlin (sp) perrin and the wolves and maybe even foreshadowing for rand al thor saying he will come back to the two rivers someday (could happen in amol at one stage). anybody else find alot of new things such as these type of foreshadowing in there reread?

Hey all! My Aunt bought me the first three books of this series about 10 years ago. For some reason I just did not get into them then (Was into a reread of Lord of the Rings with the movies coming out), and didn't quite make it through the first book. Not sure why, especially with how similar the first book was to the LoTR series seemed to me. Or so I remember Anyway a buddy of mine recently saw the books on my shelf and got all excited asking if I had read them. Once realizing I had quit he began saying bloody this and bloody that (he said everyone here would get that?), but that I should give it another try. If I hated it he'd buy me a round of golf with a 12-pa…

As some of you know I have called the Big Unnoticed Thing as the Unseen Eyes of Tel'aran'rhiod. The first citing of the girls feeling eyes on them in Tel'aran'rhiod occurs in book four... It gets referenced frequently, however. Here are some of the quotes. The Ongoing Principal: First mentioned in book 4, with heavy mention in through books four and five, slows down a bit in book 6, and then has one mention each in books 7, 9 &10. This fits neatly with the Ongoing Principal. The Discussion Factor: I cannot recall it being discussed once on DM, though Terez stated that it had been on Theoryland Revelation Requirements: The eyes are an oddity tha…

BS fired this zinger earlier today on twitter: I tried asking him if he really meant Dreamers and not dreamwalkers but he didn't respond. There was a lot of discussion about Ishy possibly being a Dreamer. He certainly seems to know things about the future. But has there been any evidence of any other Forsaken having prophetic Dreams? I can't think of a single one.

Are there anyone but me that might think the dragon legion will not be serving the light in the upcoming book? With them being filled with non-channelable men from the black tower i figure at least a good bunch of them are darkfriends. Too many darkfriends on top means this unit will not be "performing" well. I have totally forgotten where they are atm, i cant remember them being used after taking Illian (but im sure they were, possibly in knife of dreams which im almost at in my re-read) but where could they be atm? are they moving alot off-screen? we do not see them at the field of merrilor yet, could they be with King Darlin in Tear? So it's kind of like this: our company in Afghanistan rolled over an explosive, dust plumed around our vehicle, and the next thing I know I'm back in California, nursing a broken leg, a shattered hip, and working my way through the first of a stack of books entitled The Wheel of Time series. It's my girlfriend's favorite series, and since I've worked my through A Song of Ice and Fire -- which I loved -- and The First Law Series -- which I liked, but did not love -- I finally have time for these novels. So, on a rainy day, I picked up Eye of the World. And... I really, really like it. I don't love it. Not yet, at least, but I find myself more and more impressed by just…

I apologise as this has probably been asked many times before but I could not find an answer when searching these forums. "I have won again, Lews Therin." I believe this is what the DO said to Rand at the end of each life he experienced through the portal stone when travelling to Falme in The Great Hunt. I do not understand it; surely if the DO has won before, the pattern will have ended? Does this also not mean that to win all the DO has to do is kill Rand?

So many people seem to want the Song to be found. Perhaps Rand remembers it now that he has all of Lews Therin's memories. It's possible. But I also get the impression that only the Aiel, Ogier and Nym bothered to learn it. Discuss.

So... this isn't much of a theory but more of an idea I've had for a while. Who else thinks that after the last battle, Perrin will be the ruler of all of the westlands not ruled by Seanchan? I don't have much evidence but I feal that's where his arc is headed. Thought?

i'm not sure if such topic exists but anyway... In TofM Rand told Nyneave that he is going to break the seals and link with two Ais Sedai after the breaking to be stronger. He asked Nyneave to be one of these women. Who would be the second one? He wanted it to be Elayne or Avi but we know that the former can't channel since she is pregnant. the latter is going to be pregnant soon, then someone here mentioned that Nynwave is also pregnant... Question. Why are so many women pregnant? where did the evidence about Nyn's pregnancy come from? and finally: who can Rand link with then?

  20. Total Hypothetical Holodeck scenario, of course, since this can never actually happen, but: If you could ask Brandon Sanderson ANY 3 Questions that he would PROMISE to answer...NO RAFOS/MAFOS or whathaveyou, what would your 3 be??? BUT...You have to follow THESE *RULES* 1 You can ask Mr Sanderson ONLY 3 - And NO two-part questions. 2 They may ONLY relate to TWO BOOKS in the whole series (TGS and TOM)....it should be obvious why this limitation is in place (he didn't take part in any of the books prior to TGS and AMOL should be prohibited for obvious Spoiler Reasons). Here are what my 3 would be: 1 Is Nakomi Verin? 2 Who all has been 13/13ed …

  21. What do you think??? I know this seems like an obvious one, there WAS a PoV of him noting he believed Moridin to be the only one that had access. However, time has passed since then, and also we now know Moridin isnt the only one. Now Im not personally a believer of the offscreen balefiring theory, but there are those who are, and add to that the fact that he is STILL in his original body, after all this time.... Could things have changed? Could he have been given access by, say, the end of ToM? This was more or less an on-the-fly thread idea, not seen it discussed before, and while its not been mentioned in the books for a while... nows the best time to speculate…

Note: Before I said that she died, but in defending the 'Could she had lived' catagory, I've convinced myself that she lived. Did Graendal Die? Given we never saw a body, and Brandon refused to confirm whether or not she died, it was expectable that people would start theorising about her potentially living--but is there any reason to do so beyond simple nostalgia? Something Strange... The point that may suggest that things might have gone differently than they appeared to lies in the question--why didn't Graendal flee? Rand himself states that... Through Ramshalan she knows that Rand not only knows precisely where she is, but is thinking ab…

I don't know if either author has (or will) add a last supper moment for Rand and Co. but I imagine such a chapter would be incredible. Who would you like to be in such a scene, and what might they talk about over their honeyed cakes and mulled wine? In my version, after our crew has finished catching up (you know, with some lines about what they have all been up to "I married the Empress of Seanchan" "You what?" "...and drop kicked this immortal vampire into an endless abyss" "Matrim Cauthon is a wool head." "and with Thom went into the Tower of Ghenji and played the real game of Snakes and Foxes, AND WON." "oo oo I won too Mat, see?") Where was I, oh …

I was listening to the radio (I know I'm old fashion) the other day and found this song, . Immediately I thought of the WOT, Rand and male channelers and/or warders, or any non-channeler to third age AS(the vast majority are a bunch of snobs IMO), men in general to women, hhmm maybe it could also be applied to non-seachan damaen(sp?) And I got to thinking there are quite a few songs that make me thing of tWOT like(warning some of the videos are for Teen - Mature audiences): I think of Rand and those who start to distance themselves from him when they learn he can channel (like Egwene and Mat) 2 become 1 by Jewel(ignore the names I couldn't fine any good mus…

So I just started reading the wheel of time and am at book 7 and have a couple questions. Would the taint have happened if both sources of the power were used in the sealing or would both sides have ha the taint? Is it just for irony that the whitecloaks seem to mostly follow darkfriends and forsaken. Does anyone know if there was ever a map prebreaking of the world? Also could I get a link to a nice large detailed map I can leave open on my computer as I read the books. When I was reading the books I had more questions to ask but forgot. Remembered a couple questions. How old can a user of the one power be? Because Cadsuane is over a 1000 years old and was co…

Min: Hey Rand. Theres guna be another time when Perrin needs to be with you or you'll die. Finns: To live you must die. See what Im getting at? If Perrin is present, does that mean Rand will die the final death? I think either Perrin will be absent, seemingly failing his task, and yet allowing him to die so he can live again like the Finns said, OR Perrin will be present, and Rand will die twice and survive both. Thoughts, theories, ideas?

I've reread ACOS mutliple times lately (as thats one of 4 WOT novels that I sent myself in PDF at the office that survived the E-mail system conversion, hehe), and the ending sequence has always kind of bothered me. As an admitted comic book guy growing up, the adage, "never believe a character is dead until you see a body, and even then only 1/4th of the time," would certainly apply. We don't actually see him consumed by flames or snatched by Mashadar. AAMOF Rand states, "He couldn't have survived that," or something similar, a statement which would tend to make my BS alarm go flippin haywire. Furhter, in my scanning of these forums and others at theoryland I've neve…

  29. I just finished re reading towers of midnight and have a friend who has just started reading TGH, and i'm wondering whether some of the scenes in the later books were as heartfelt as they were to me (e.g. VoG, and 'For what has been wrought') as they would be too someone who just started reading the series. Are these events so emotional just because i've been waiting years for them to happen? Will they be as rewarding to someone who starts reading them now? - longtime lurker

Ok, I have a question or two for the WoT philosophers out there... RJ Stated that trollocs couldn't go through gateways because they are artificial constructs. So, how is it that trollocs can use the ways? The way gate is just a Ter'Angreal that allows a form of Traveling so how can the trollocs survive passing through one? Also, how can trollocs be considered artificial constructs when they reproduce on their own? I can see the first trollocs being constructs but the succeeding generations, not so much. Of the shadowspawn that we know of trollocs fades and worms are the only ones that reproduce and have a "natural" lifecycle. The Nym and Gholam were not able to reprod…
