The Rules 1. Read the title of the thread before posting. We will be very clear where the spoiler limit is--do not post spoilers from chapter one in threads that say Prologue Spoilers Only or we will be very cranky. 2. Cracking a joke is never wrong, everyone loves a good laugh. But threadjacking by having post after post after post with jokes turns jokes into spam, and no one likes that. 3. PG-13 rules apply as some of our members are quite young. 4. Play nice and have fun. Online Resources Should have done this a long time ago. Here are the online sources me and some others quite often use for useful information. The Wheel of time…

Hello all, I'm slowly progressing through the Wheel of Time series. (I'm on book 6) It's something I got into about a year ago, but now going to college has decided that it wants to eat most of my leisure time. For my Comp 2 class, I have to write a research paper on anything to do with writing/literacy or rhetoric. It's a pretty wide open topic and I decided that in order to be focused I would do my paper on the setting in Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. I've used every academic database I can think of and I can't find any academic articles on it. It's not just setting specific articles... I can't find any literary analyses or anything on the series or him as a…

Burned out or stilled? Seeing as one thread almost got entirely de-railed into this question I figured I'd make a new one. Honestly: I think both Lanfear and Moiraine were Burned out when they went through the door. Why? We've had a very specific warning about this right back in TGH. When Nynaeve channels during her Accepted testing. Once she emerges the first time an Aes Sedai (Sheriam?) tells her she shouldn't be able to, and should not when she goes back through the next two times. She recounts how when they first found the ter'angreal anyone who went through it whilst channeling always emerged burned out, unable to even sense the source. In addition, Ny…

I read the short story The Strike at Shayol Ghul for the first time today and something struck me... In the footnote it reads: "They were brave men and women, for although those who were not killed outright were tortured, and though some revealed the purpose of their mission, none betrayed the location of any of the access ter'angreal. Still, the only real result was that the ter'angreal were widely scattered across areas held for the Shadow, their locations and even their existence to remain hidden for millennia. " The ter'angreal referred to are the access keys to the two Statue Sa'angreal. We know that one ter'angreal was destroyed when Rand Cleansed teh taint,…

Hey guys toward the end of The Gathering Storm......Nynaeve confronts Cadsuanne about Perrin's involvement with her "plan". She replied that it wasn't Perrin as much as it was someone traveling with Perrin. Anyone know who she is referring to and how that person is more important than Perrin?

An element I thought could use further discussion. In Apples First Rand is fairly zen--I like him not being a homicidal maniac, but that doesn't mean I want him to become some sort of hippie. I wanna see him lay a smackdown from time to time. Was anyone else concerned by how smacked out on weed Rand seemed in Apples First?

I was just rereading TGS and something bothered me about the fact that the majority of the black ajah in the tower escaped, especially the most important ones (Alviarin and Katerine in particular). There's always the answer that those who escaped death in the rebel camped warned those in the tower, but I feel that would have been difficult to accomplish with the way the black ajah works. The hearts prevent the ajah from knowing more than 2 others in the black and the way these women work, they'd be far more concerned with saving their own skin than warning their fellow darkfriends (especially after Verin's little speech on selfishness). Now we know that Meidani was onl…

Hey guys. Long-time fan and Dragonmount lurker, but first post. And I apologize if this has been asked a hundred times before..... I have a question that goes waaay back in the series to EOTW, TGH, and TDR. I started re-reading for the 3rd time and noticed something weird. Despite the fact that Rand et al. meet (and kill) Aginor and Balthamel in EOTW, why does no one seem to believe that the Forsaken are loose until halfway through TDR? It seems pretty clear who Ag and Balth are, and Nynaeve even has Aginor in her ter'angreal trip during her Accepted ceremony. So why does everyone seem so surprised and dubious that the Forsaken are loose until Morirane finally c…

Ok, this thread can be for the general discussion of 'how the frak they gonne handle Graendal'?? As Barid points out in another thread... But I wanna start with an old favourite of mine... Aviendha Will Kill Graendal Despite my shiny title this is based alot on nostalgia--the theory probably had more going for it back when Aviendha and Graendal were both in Arad Domon. Aviendha (along with all the Aiel) were working to undo what Graendal had wrought there, and that was the basis of their conflict. However, that being said, Graendal's mission to cause Rand pain of the heart is reason for her to look to Aviendha should she learn of her, and Aviend…

I started reading the WOT series this past January and i finished up to book 12 in July. I always wondered, does anyone (apart from Jordan and Sanderson) know all the Prophecies of the Dragon? Any thoughts from anyone else?

I started thinking about the Dark One's prison and how Lanfear made the bore using the One Power. They were looking for a power that both men and women could use (True Power ). It brought me to wonder how the One Power had been discovered in the first place. Perhaps the source of power was discovered while researchers were trying to find an alternative energy source. Maybe through the use of some forgotten technology, someone created a bore into where the Creator was. This might be the key to sealing back up the DO. They may need to seal back up the Creator. Another thought. What if the seals of the DO's prison also partially sealed up the Creator's prison. This m…

As far as we know, all the disks are accounted for. Rand has a discussion with Moraine once, about weather one is real when he see's it's broken, this is in book 5 I believe. The thing is that all of these disks are accounted for right? 7 of them right? But some of them were found broken when they were found right?

Thoughts on balefire: If every time you use balefire on an individual, it singes the weave of a life or soul out of the pattern for ever... and people are born and reborn, be they hero's or not, the question that i propose is, supposing that the DO is fought off every single time the wheel turns, isn't the wheel destined to eventually spin out a humanless world? Eventually what? there's not enough souls to be reborn and spin out Rands in the future. The point here is that the dragon reborn, will spin out weaves of balefire at some point during each turn of the wheel, and that otherss will do the same, weather in a time period similar to ours here, or one similar …

May be someone has stated this but i couldnt find anything in the discussion, but is there something between Moridin and Rand? I believe in The Gathering Storm, Graendal thought that Moridin looked a lot like Rand when she was first summoned to his tower. she also thought his hand flexed oddly, the same hand that Semirhage destroyed. Also there were instances when Rand closed his eyes , Moridin's image flexed into his vision. could moridin and rand be the opposite of the same coin?

There has been a lot of discussion about the possibility that Taim could be in fact the big cheese himself, Moridin that is. Taim is not Moridin in my view. The whole height issue and not looking at all similiar to Moridin. Greandhal in tGS claims that Moridin looks a lot in fact like Rand. Now Taim doesn't look at all like Rand and I also believe there is a height difference aswell. Another item would be the different colour eyes. All of these reasons are just phyiscal reasons why and their has been talk of apperances being altered by the use of the power both the one power and the true power. Which in all fairness could be viable, just. One item though le…

Mehan, Teramina and Jamilila are the three Aes Sedai Egwene identifies as potential candidates for Mesaana-hood. There were seen after the battle, but were not in the tower for the re-swearing, nor were they on Verin's list. I propose that this was a clever mis-direction by Brandon. These three were not black ajah, and are not Mesaana. Instead they were assassinated by the blood-knives. Remember there are four still in the tower area with missions to kill as many Marath'damane following the initial Raid. I think that these three did not flee the tower, but are casualties to these blood-knives. Your thoughts?

In PoD, Rand mentions that he asked the Finns how he could cleanse saidin and they responded with a riddle. I don't recall it ever being mentioned what that riddle was though. Was it ever written anywhere? It always seemed sort of random to me that he'd get the idea to try and feed the taint into Shadar Logoth through a funnel of saidar. It was like I'd missed a scene when he figured out how to go about this and it just sort of came out of left field. Was there more buildup to it that I just overlooked or was the plan only presented to the reader when he actually did it?

anyone think the callandor can be used as a filter to separate moridin from rand's consciousness? i am not sure how it would work as a result of what cadsuane said about the magnification the dark energy, but it seems to scream 'filter' all over it...

Sorry if it's been covered, but I didn't see it elsewhere.... Myrelle tells Egwene that she plans to give Nynaeve Lan's bond ASAP. And Myrelle did take an active interest in breaking Nynaeve's block, helping her become AS. When did Myrelle get message from Moiraine to give that bond to Nynaeve? I'm certain that Moiraine did so, because otherwise, we don't see Myrelle and Moiraine together after Moiraine meets with the Two Rivers Crew (she never returned to Tar Valon, from what I remember). And Myrelle somehow knew, after sensing Lan's bond pass to her and before seeing Lan, that Nynaeve was to get Lan. But she was surprised to find out that Lan a…

Let me start off by saying that I never would have considered this if Luckers hadn't put a lot of information together, but I have a new theory regarding the Unseen Eyes, and also the Big Unnoticed Thing (BUT). To start off, Luckers established a good theory that the BUT corresponds to the Unseen Eyes of TAR. I'm starting to come around on this theory. Luckers personal opinion is that the Unseen Eyes are the Evil of Shadar Logoth, the source of the actual evil that corrupted the city and gave birth to Mashadar. However, I was rereading another of Luckers' theories relating to the Darkhounds here. I now think that the Unseen Eyes of TAR may be the trapped W…

Okay, so here we go. The majority of channelers in Randland use the One Power, drawn from the True Source, yeah? And certain individuals (to prevent certain spoilers) use The True Power, from the Once Source. It seems to me that they should have opposite naming schemes. Take the OP. As it is different for males and females, I would think calling in the "One" Power is a bit of a misnomer. I propose that is should be the True Power, drawn from the One Source. Conversely, to the FS and any potential dreadlords, would they not think of the DO's power as the One Power drawn from what they consider the "True" Source? Now I realize that many will probably…

I've been thinking about this a lot lately and I've come to a conclusion, but its a conclusion based on a memory of something I can't seem to find reference to, so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction or set me straight. (Also, forgive me if this exposition is not quite as detailed or well organized as our friend Luckers tends to offer - I'm at work with people constantly looking over my shoulder) Now we know that the Portal Stones allow access between worlds. What I seem to remember is someone saying or referencing the fact that the DO holds sway in some of these worlds, or possibly all of them other than Randland. Either case, if true, would se…

Alright. I know this is nothing new, but I heard a rumor that RJ flat out stated that the Mazrim Taim is not Demandred; is this valid??? If so, is anyone else wondering who, and when we'll find out? I'm new here, so I'm guessing this has been discussed to death, but did I miss something? I have been reading these books since I was sixteen; I'm in my 30's now... and while I have some theories of my own I"d love to hear others if it's not too annoying to pick up this old thread. I've read everything currently out, including the chap. 8 excerpt, so no worries about spoilage.

hello, i only recently found this site and decided to join you ;p and i immediately have a question for you ;p (i have looked in the forums but did not find anything that covers this question :o ) the unseen eyes in TAR: they have been mentioned a nubmer of times in different chapters/books but only when the pov was on one of our female heros have they ever been mentioned by perrin/rand ? (or a forsaken for that matter.. but they dont count for we can't know if they KNOW what it is) perhaps its a stupid first question ever ;p but it bothers me ^^ Sarty
