I suppose it was inevitable. I can only hope that a troupe of sexy, twenty-something vampires aren't in my WoT future but did the entire sequence from TGS in Hinderstap feel like a level in Left4Dead or perhaps a zombie shooter level from Call of Duty? I found myself reading, thinking, zombies, seriously? And what good do flesh eating (well, I don't know that they're exactly flesh eating, but one can certainly surmise) zombies mild mannered daylight alter egos have with gold? It's not like they could spend or enjoy it since they all seemed forever trapped in their little village of the damned. What other pop culture kitsch do you have for us Brandon Sanderson...…

Question on Gawn and the Blood Knives, Any ideas why he is wearing the blood knives rings around his neck or why he didn't tell anyone what they were, since I noticed Egwene made a mention of them?

How big is Caemlyn in terms of distances? I'm asking because the effective radius of a dreamspike is 4 leagues and the Black Tower is less than two leagues from Caemlyn (KoD, Ch 17). Given that 1 league= 4miles that most likely means that the pretty much the whole Caemlyn is effected by the dreamspike, is this right? The palace surely is covered as the BT is to the south of the city and the palace is in the southern part of Caemlyn. Also, where exactly is Mat's camp in relation to Caemlyn? It's mentioned in ToM, Ch 8 that it's a league away but in which direction? I couldn't find any references for that.

The title pretty much says it all...I was inspired to write this post while recently rereading the description of Master Halwin Norry in TOM, who is Elayne Trakand's First Clerk, when I noticed that Halwin Norry and Sebwen Balwer are the SAME Guy, lol!!! And I mean EXACTLY. I see this to a lesser extent with Davram Bashere and Rodel Itulrade. (older, eccentric, unflappable, quirky, venerable, experienced, dry-witted battle leaders). Despite the rather significant difference of one being male and one being female, Dyelin and Lord Dobraine sorta fit that mold as well, IMHO. Thoughts? - Fish EDITED To add: Halima = Graendal (Curvey, hot, fema…

First off let me say I love the WoT so I don't want anyone freaking out on me. That said, here I go... 1. So I've heard a lot of people always compare the Fremen in Dune to the Aiel in WoT, and I hadn't read it, so didn't really know. I'm reading it now, and I have to say there does seem to be a lot of similarities. Mostly just the way of life is extremely similar. They live in a desert wasteland, they are incredible fighters, not much is actually known about their society initially, their numbers are underestimated, water is incredibly important, water is used to make pacts, deals, etc. So obviously there is a lot here that is quite similar, but I disagree still wi…

Did anyone though what impact they going to have? Seems kind of funny actually, on one side one can put them on top of Dragonmount, or Seanchan continent, prepare and in last moment open gate and shoot, let say modest 50 dragons in Egwene/Elayne face (yep, hate this two)- nightmare for wardens :), on the other one can open gate and just chanelling a bit of fire will wipe out entire artillery plus half of the army, or castle walls, if someone cleverly place them there.

My first post here :) I couldn't stop myself from posting it but why everybody seem so sure that Moridin is actually Ishamael? Didn't read any authors comments so if it is stated by any of them then please let me know. For me actually it seems way more likely that it will be revived Lews Therin? PS Sorry for my English I am not native speaker.

I hope this hasn't been discussed before, but I was wondering if our three ta'veren will still be ta'veren after TG. What mean is ta'veren are spun out by the pattern to shape events the way it needs. So what happens when the pattern no longer needs them. With the last battle over there won't be a need for the pattern to shape itself around them. So do the stop being ta'veren or do they remain ta'veren but no longer impact the pattern because it no longer has a need for them?

This has always bugged me. The Black Ajah had ample opportunity to do it. And, we've seen that Tiam is doing it to those that become Ashaman. His temperament seems to suggest this may be so. The hate and anger that many took as proof that he was Demandred could actually be evidence he was turned. Its said that when you're turned that way its the person but with all the negative things about him brought out and the good things pushed down. Anger and hate are two bad emotions and could indicate this. I just want the thoughts of others.

Hello, I'm re-reading Wheel of Time, in the third book, The Dragon Reborn. In the previous novel, The Great Hunt, Tam's heron marked blade that Tam gave to Rand is destroyed by the Dark One, but in the Dragon Reborn, it says, if I read correctly, that Rand slayed an entire merchant/merchants guard with a Heron Marked Blade... My question is, where did he get this one? Did he steal it from the Seanshan Blademaster he defeated in Great Hunt?

Hi, I'm completely new to the wheel of time series which I have to say is one of the greatest book series I have ever started reading, but, I am a little confused on how the "New Spring Novel" ties in to the wot series. I was wondering if this Novel ties into the series the same way as say for exmple the way that "The Hobit" ties into the LOTR series as a starting point for how the ring of power ended up being passed down and everything that happens with the LOTR's book series by J. R. R. Tolkien. What I am trying to ask is, is the "New Spring Novel" the beginning of the wot series or is it Something else entirely and my confusion is for nothing at all. I was not sure…

Hi, I'm just curious to find out how many of you are "original" wot fans? By that I mean people who've been following the series from the very beginning - ie 1990! I started in the late nineties (POD was the first book I had to wait for). Sadly the friends who recommended it to me have fallen off the wagon.

This is a question that I haven´t thought about consciously, I´ve just read about channeling and formed a picture in my mind. But now I´ve been thinking about how channeling would actually look like. I´m just gonna take two examples from FoH. This is when Nyn is trying to heal Birgitte after she has been ripped out from T´a´R.(p 513) "Strands of Spirit predominated, but Water and Air were in there, and even Earth and Fire. It looked as complicated as embroidering one dress with either hand, and two more with your feet. Blindfolded." This is another quote when Moghedien has just been hurt with Birgitte´s arrow and Liandrin has tried to attack her. Moggy has shi…

I just recently bought the The World of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Encyclopedia and read more in depth about them. Through out the WoT series only Shara was mentioned and it seemed like a mix of Africa and Japan's early closing down its ports to outsiders. While we met Jain Farstrider in ToM I can't shake the feeling like these lands could've played a role in WoT series. Especially the Land of the Madman with channelers running lose and killing everyone. Grant it theres only one more book in the series but I hope we get some more information about them. On a side note, does anyone else think that when Graendal travels to a "safehouse" in ToM that it could be t…

A huge theme in the books has been people assuming things to be true when they aren't. This happens with everyone from farmers to High Lords to Aes Sedai. It seems that all the theories and predictions and questions concerning the books hinge on the fact that there are seven Ages to the turning of the Wheel and the assumption that this is the third Age. What if it isn't? At the beginning of every book, RJ tells us: (Emphasis mine) Called the third Age by some? Wouldn't it be just like RJ to sneak this one in on us in the first paragraph of every single book? Much of the speculation I see revolves around this being the third age, particularly when it comes to resea…

I can't remember. Does it ever officially state who's stronger between the two or are people just assuming Logain is because of his aura about greatness? I just remember reading that Logain was one of the more stronger false dragons ever so that could be evidence but I've started thinking Taim is stronger. Especially after the hint that he may have the TP

Terez gave a strong case for Demandred being based in Murandy based on Roedran's striking transformation. I don't want to rehash her arguments but I was looking for other possible clues to Demandred's location and it occurred to me that Demandred's fashion sense might provide a clue. So Demandred easily adapts to local fashions and he is wearing lace on that day. There is another remark in KoD pointing in the same direction This again says that Demandred follows local fashion and this time he is wearing lace at neck and wrists. In Randlands different countries seem to have pretty distinct fashions so I thought this might lead to something. But I admit I n…

So, what exactly DOES this phrase mean? I can never tell if its good luck, bad luck, or just ridiculous amount of luck either way. Some examples that kind of confuse me are: In New Spring, Lan mentions that the 2,000 Aiel would 'need the Dark One's own luck' to not defeat the wetlanders. I imagined this was supposed to mean bad luck in this instance. Another, when Mat is doing his epic gambling night in Tar Valon when he kills the two men, he walks into a tavern to play dice. He continuously wins until somebody says "the Dark One's own luck" and Mat goes crazy basically, and storms out. I imagine this has to be good luck. So, thoughts?

I found a timeline issue in ToM which I can not reconcile. I don't think it has been mentioned yet. (I originally posted this in the general WoT forum by mistake for which I apologize). In CH8 Mat walks in Caemlyn and observes this This pegs the moment to Rand's epiphany on Dragonmount. That happened at least a day (maybe more) after the reunification of the Tower. Later that day Mat talks to Teslyn and they talk of the rumors of the tower reunification and the seanchan attack on the Tower. That means that actually at least a few days have passed since the reunification for those rumors to reach Caemlyn. The next day Mat sees the Aes Sedai off and tells …

Ok, so Terez, Brandon and I along with some amazing other people had something of an epic discussion on Twitter about gender and sexuality in the Wheel of Time. Terez went to the awesome effort of transcribing it, and I thought you guys might enjoy it. Read Terez's proper transcriptions which includes citation links and annotations here: The Theoryland Interview Database: Women and Men Brandon: Also Re: NMN. [Or go here for more context.] I'll give you this point in regards to Rhuidean. No good reason for Avi to be nude when Rand/Mat don't have to be. Brandon: As for the Aes Sedai ceremonies, they still feel very similar to sacred feminine ceremonies I've read be…

Well, I just wanted to mention, after reading about the Big Unnoticed Thing, the possibility of T'a'r being significant in the Big Unnoticed Thing. There's something that I've been thinking about, that may be small but may not either, about the possible link between T'a'r and the world of the Aelfinn/Eelfinn's. Both of these places are unnatural and defy nature, as well as both places having the feeling of being watched. And also with the rescue of Moiraine and her seeing an unknown male person who simply states that she is not the one he is looking for. IMO this could possibly be Slayer, as he would be strong enough to walk through unchallenged by the finn's. And Mat…

This was briefly mentioned in the BUT thread but I haven't seen it discussed much otherwise. What are the thoughts on how Birgitte's arrow made it out of TAR when Moggy pushed Birgitte out? Can this be done with other inanimate objects? that would make it easy to produce all kinds of stuff so it would seem unlikely to me. The only idea I have is that Birgitte's bow and arrows might be somehow special, tied to the pattern along with Birgitte herself, perhaps. When Birgitte disappears from TAR her clothes fade and disappear but the bow and the arrows remain BTW, the fact that Nynaeve and Elayne never bothered to asked Moggy about the whole episode while they had …
