Skype? Anyone? Its a free download, and with a headset, you can talk to any other Skype user for free and you can call landlines free for the first bit and after you have to buy minutes but it's free and really easy to use. I was wondering if anyone else is using or interested? (Laymen terms: Pretty much your computer becomes able to phone anywhere.)

  5. Richard Morgan's latest novel, Black Man, is an precursor of sorts to his Takeshi Kovacs trilogy, set 400 years before those novels in a United States torn apart by religious, political and sociological strife. It is simultaneously a mystery novel, a high-octane action story and a deep examination of character and motive. It is incendiary stuff that will no doubt deeply offend a lot of people (particularly those on the extreme right living in the southern United States), but it is also brilliantly written, deeply compelling and at times tremendously emotionally affecting. It is one of the most intense books I've read in a long time. It also by far the best thing that Morg…

Lets dicuss the very strange philosophy in Sot. It seems to be a very confused mixture of religions and contains a small bit of truth that has been so twisted that I can hardly understand the worldveiw. A world veiw is two questions: what is the nature of God, and what is the nature of man. there is more to it of course, but that is the core. So, any thoughts on this matter? :?:

Hello :) Long time lurker, first time poster. On Friday, I received a very mysterious message from a guy friend at work - I've not been able to figure out what it means.... & this has prompted the courage to post something... I'm sure someone here can help. In a nutshell, I'm horrible at riddles... I know this about myself & I'm OK with it :) I have googled everything I can think of to find the answer... but no luck. I'm thinking he made it up & there is no real answer. ?? Any ideas would be much appreciated. "It is not used in talking but is used in walking. Can bring a smile, yet angst it also bring at times. For any of you who read Elizabeth Hadon's Rhapsody (Forgot name of the saga) I read the back of the book. Looked ok. And she is also compared to RJ and JRRT and also published by ToR. So I decided to try it out. So I read the kinda prolouge thing (it's not a chapter) Its about a Gwydion like getting messed around with. He mights a girl and they in a field (for those of you who read this you know what im talking about) and then he was supposed to go over her house. But couldn't because of whatever reasons. Can someone explain to me what this Meridion guy is doing ?

Hey there, I'm trying to hook myself up with some serious brownie points here. If anyone can help with this, I will be in their debt. My wife's got a recent obsession with the "Vision of Escaflowne" series. She's literally been watching it from the time the kid goes to sleep to the time we go to sleep. I'm not sure how many times she's watched the series through in the last 2 weeks. Anyway, she heard last night that there's an extended version with added scenes in the first few episodes. I've been scouring the net trying to find that version on DVD, but I haven't found a description for purchase that explicitly says they have the extra scenes. These are t…

2007 sees the much wanted return of the Emperor Awards. "The what awards?", I hear you say. You've heard of the Oscars? If so, the Emperor Awards are DM's equivalent of the Oscars! There are 25 different categories, which cover the ORG side, the RP side and other aspects of DM. For a full list of the Award Categories, click here! And the good news is that everyone is entitled to vote in them! However, certain restrictions apply. - Members of both the RP and ORG side can vote in all the awards (except those stated otherwise) - Members of just the ORG side can vote in the ORG side and Other awards (except those stated otherwise) - Members of just the RP side can…

There was a thread on this in the newbie section, but it appears that the server crash ate it. So I thought I'd restart it here. It seems that there are varying thoughts about pronouncing words (usually names) that appear not only in WoT but in other SF or fantasy books/series. The discussion started out with an interpretation of my nick...I've always read it as "Hugh" but others may mentally interpret it as "huh." The pronunciation of the city-state, "Tear" seems to be "tier" or those lachrymose things that come from the eye (Does that explain the "Eye of Tear?") but the residents of that place are referred to as Tairens pronounced like the word for ripp…

Also, if you are in the Warder's Guild, winning the tournament will be worth one point towards your promotion.

WAIT!!! STOP!!! Don't you dare ask why I came back! If you post here, you will forget that I was ever here, I'm still gone, I am just posting to get some feedback for my book, I will post the first chapter, and if someone actually reads it I will do the second, the third is in progress, but may get pushed to the side for a bit while I feverishly work towards my A+ Degree. And now, without further ado...Chapter 1... Oh...here's a bit more ado...I have not named the book yet, not even a working title, because I am only on the third chapter, and, I have not quite decided what to call this Chapter yet, working title is simply, Enemies, but idea's are welcomed...ok, no…

I am looking forward to play Vanguard . I am from the pre-cu SWG, I do not hate SOE, I hate the part of SOE who make SWG crap. They have many games some are crap some are good, depands on people. Now for the publishing, I see people saying they will not play because of SOE publish the game or if Microsoft publish a game. So according to you guys I should cross of my list the 2 games I am expecting the most Q4 because of their publisher, Age of Conan = MS, Vanguard = SOE. Come on guys they will only publish the game not make it or change it. I enjoyed SWG when it first came out for about 2 months. The quests were horrid, and the while the harvesti…

I have put up a full review of Reynolds' latest novel on my blog. However, the short version is: it's good. A return to form after a couple of interesting-but-flawed books, The Prefect is a highly compulsive thriller with more action than perhaps is expected from a Reynolds novel, although not at the expense of his usual dark, noirish ideas and at times unsettling atmosphere. The book is set a century before Chasm City and Revelation Space, but curiously has a lot of very interesting ties to the other novels. A good comparison is the way Steven Erikson's Midnight Tides relates to the other Malazan novels, and can be read either before or after with the reader gaining a di…

Sorry if this has been dicussed in a forum before but I couldn't find one so I said I'd make one. So who do you think is the best general?Alexander?Caesar? There are massive tactical changes due to gunpowder so you can give pre and post gun powder opinions if you want. I think my vote goes to Hannibal, if only because he's my favourite and because of the battle of Cannae.

About three months ago me and some friends of mine where talking about what computer games we could play. We where getting tired of the ones we where playing at the time, a few of us suggested the LOTR games that are coming out, someone else said to bad there isn’t a Wheel of Time game or MMO. Now I am a college student going for my bachelors in Game Art and Design. I got to thinking and decided to first do some research to find out if one was planned and so far I have not. Well I recently started writing up a GDD, (Game Design Document) I had planned on sending it to MR. Jordan completely finished, but even reading the series several times as I have I still don’t see…

  23. Because there's really only one thing to do when your hard drive fails and your most recent back up was a week ago Sunday... Now I figure, if you're going to go back in time, you might as well do it with a bit of style. You know what would make this better? Flaming wheel tracks. Aww yeah. That's 1.21 gigawatts under that hood baby. Don't forget to say hello to the 'rents while you're there... Just, don't make out with your mom or anything. that would be weird. Not feeling this theme week? That's cool. But your kids will really dig it someday.

The Illuminators are an organization at Dragonmount that focuses on the creative energies of the members as a whole. We do not have any one specific purpose except creativity. We have the ability to grow into whatever creative minds can come up with. The Illuminators currently have five chapter houses. Each house focuses on something general, but these are not the limits of the Illuminators. The Scribe's Chapter house focuses on our writers, editors and publishers. The Artist Chapter house focuses on the classical arts, sketching, painting, sculpting, digital illustration and rendering, etc. The Crafter's chapter house focuses on the trade skills, sewing, jewelers, blacks…

Yay! It's American Idol time again! I have a workmate who auditioned in Seattle but, uh.. didn't make the cut. She's actually a really good singer (would I lie?) but she's pretty manic. And she choked when they asked her to sing a different song. The producers that is. She didn't get to Randy/Paula/Simon. I must say, tomorrow's show from Seattle does look frightening! I'm afraid! Seems like the last few shows they've showed a lot more of the rejects than the good singers. I guess they figured that's what people want to see in those first few episodes. Anyone you saw from tonight that you liked? (Granted they only showed, like 4 good singers...)
